The
club was re-named Kent Landsailing Club in
December 1996 and was formerly known as the Varne Sandyachting Club, which
had been in existence for many years. It was decided to change the name
to Kent Land Yacht Club from year 2002.
At Greatstone we sail on most low-tide weekend days provided that the
weather is suitable, apart from the summer school holidays (particularly
July and August) when the beach can get very busy with holiday-makers
etc.
Access to the beach is usually via the car park opposite the Romney Sands
Holiday Camp, The Parade, Greatstone, New Romney Kent. This is not a Shepway
District Council owned car park and not subject to any charges but does
get busy at times, particularly lunch time in the warmer weather. There
is another car park at the other end of the beach, near (behind) the Seahorse
pub, but this one is a pay and display with extra charge for trailers.
The car park near the Jolly Fisherman pub is unsuitable for yacht access.
This is also a Pay and Display.
Since 1999 we have been able to sail on Margate beach in the winter months.
This new site is smaller than Greatstone but still large enough to have
fun on! In order to sail here you need to be a member of the Thanet Water
Users Group and minimum pilot level two unless sailing with an instructor.
Contact the club secretary for details.

Ours
is a small but friendly club and we welcome new members from all over
the South East of England. Both class 3 and class 5 yachts are sailed.
We have three registered Instructors and one National Instructor within
the club so help is available to those who wish to progress through the
pilot rating scheme. Commercial training courses are regularly held by
Kirrawee Land Yachts, a local training centre. The first objective should
be to obtain the Pilot's Licence which enables you to take part in competitions
should you wish. It is also useful when sailing at other club sites, particularly
if you wish to sail abroad.
For those with their own yacht, full membership of the club is very cheap
and those joining part way through the year are charged on a pro-rata
basis (minimum three months). Alternatively, temporary membership of the
club (including temporary membership of the British Federation and insurance
cover) is available at £7.00 for 3 months. Insurance cover is mandatory
on all British Federation sites and by far the best and cheapest way to
make sure that you have cover is to join our club! You have made the first
steps towards taking up what is the most exciting, exhilarating and friendly
wind-powered sport available in the U.K. We, at the Kent Land Yacht Club,
look forward to meeting you on the beach. Need any more help? Contact
the club.
